Description - The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority’s annual spring afforestation program involves the planting of approximately 40,000 seedlings on private and public land across its watershed. Most of the seedlings are planted using a tractor-mounted p lanter, with some hand planting when necessary. Based on a 3-year running total, there are typically 24 planting sites per year and the average project size is 1,650 trees per planting site. To control competing vegetation, the Conservation Authority offers landowners optional post-planting herbicide treatment with the application of Simazine 480 and/or a glyphosate-based product (Roundup WeatherMAX/VisionMAX).
