Description - Replacing P-1004645 Aircraft braking system When a runway is used by fighter aircraft, an aircraft braking system (VAI) is installed at the end of the runway. In the event of a calamity during take-off or landing, a VAI brings the aircraft to a safe halt by means of the cable, provided it is equipped with an arresting hook. Because the runway can be used by fighter aircraft from both sides, each runway therefore has two VAIs. The current VAIs need to be replaced on the main runway at Volkel Air Base.
