Description - Description: The reason and context In 2019 the first Bubble Barrier was installed in the Westerdok in Amsterdam: an innovative system that takes on plastic waste from canals with a screen of air bubbles, without hindering shipping. The air bubbles c reate a diagonal current that leads floating waste to a collection system. This technology has been developed as an answer to the increasing plastic pollution in waterways and has previously been successfully tested, including in the IJssel. The pilot in the Westerdok was commissioned by the Amstel, Gooi and Vecht Water Board and the municipality of Amsterdam.
