Description - According to government decision N2007/3647IR, the Swedish Transport Administration is tasked with taking the necessary measures to ensure a connection to and from Holmön in Umeå Municipality. Holmön with surrounding islands, just north of Umeå, is Sweden's largest nature conservation area in a marine environment. The island is about one mile out in the open sea and has about 60 permanent residents, of which about 10 commute to the mainland. The island is operated by state road ferry, but in difficult winter conditions, when the ice settles or breaks up, the Swedish Transport Administration provides a helicopter solution.
