Description - The Council is the highway authority and tunnel operating authority for the 230m-long, twin-bore Weston Hills Tunnel. The tunnel forms part of the dual, two-lane A505 Baldock Bypass. The tunnel has several operational safety systems which are support ed by a range of mechanical, electrical and other technology equipment items including, for example, emergency telephones, tunnel lighting, traffic control signs, CCTV, fire hydrants and pumps. Inspection, maintenance and repair services for the tunnel’s mechanical, electrical and other technology equipment are currently provided by a service provider under a contract which will conclude during September 2024.The Council is looking to let a new
