Design Assist/Timber Supply & Install For Mass Timber Composite Structure

1. INTRODUCTION

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is Canada's largest mental health and addiction teaching hospital and a world leading research centre in this field. CAMH combines clinical care, research, education, policy development and health promotion to help transform the lives of people affected by mental illness and addiction. CAMH is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, and is a Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization Collaborating Centre. 2. BACKGROUND AND SITUATION OVERVIEW

As part of the next phase of redevelopment (Phase 1D) and the consolidation of all CAMH services to 1001 Queen Street West, Toronto, CAMH intends to construct a new 7 storey, 380,000 sq. ft. facility involving a composite mass timber structure. Following an architectural competition, KPMB/Treanor HL and AEI Affiliated Engineers were selected as designers for the project. The structural consultants, Blackwell Structural Engineers, are part of the Design Team. The design as currently envisioned is to provide a composite mass timber structure from floors 3 to 7. Current architectural and structural drawings and high-level milestone schedule will be made available to interested vendors following the execution of a non-disclosure agreement.

Because mass timber construction is an evolving industry CAMH wishes to undertake a certain amount of risk management by issuing an RFP for selection of a vendor who would be engaged under a two part agreement to provide design assist services, working with the Design Team and CAMH, in developing innovative ways to deliver the proposed composite mass timber system including integration with other construction trades and secondly to guarantee pricing, supply and installation of the final design to meet both architectural and structural requirements.

3. PROJECT OBJECTIVE

To utilize the services of a vendor to provide design assist services, working with the Design Team, for mass timber components of the project and to supply and install the mass timber system for the building.

4. REQUEST DETAILS

This Request for Information (RFI) is purely for the purpose of gathering information to identify the capabilities of potential vendors to inform an RFP or further exploration between the most fitting vendors and CAMH. CAMH does not intend to imply any future business to vendors who respond to this request. Should CAMH decide to proceed with the project, this will be done through a formal Request for Proposal (RFP) process. CAMH reserves the right to include ideas and information garnered through this RFI process in its future RFP.
