Description - Expressions of interest : Consulting Services for Acquisition Technician CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT In the last two decades, Honduras has made significant progress in closing the coverage gap for Water Supply and Sanitation (WSS). Whil e in 1990 less than 75 percent of the population had access to improved water and less than 50 percent to improved sanitation, Honduras managed to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of reducing coverage gaps by half for end of 2012. In 2015, 91 percent of Hondurans had access to improved water and 83 percent had access to improved sanitation. Despite considerable progress in terms of global AAS coverage, there are significant inequities in access to these services and the quality of service is generally low. In 2003, the Government of Honduras made enormous efforts to decentralize drinking water and sanitation services, from the National Autonomous Service of Aqueducts and Sewers (SANAA) to the municipalities, through the issuance of the Framework Law for the Potable Water Sector. and Sanitation of 2003 (Framework Law).
